Growing Pains

Sometimes I feel like I wanna be too writer-y when I'm writing these blogs. Really there's little to say about taking the last quarter off other than things happened that I didn't plan on happening and other things that I planned on happening happened!

Let's start with my failures:

I had intended to take the past 3 months off to launch a new design service I'm currently dubbing Semi-Custom - but the ideas are still sitting, barely started, on my computer. I also wanted to launch my own merch line and give me a reason to do more self-directed design work to keep my skills fresh, try new design concepts, challenge myself, and build more real-world portfolio work. Ah, a noble goal! (I’m not giving up on it - just slowing it down.)

I also wanted to wrap up the Green Web Design course I started back in the spring. Other courses and other work of course got in the way.

A few other personal setbacks occurred too that certainly affected my ability to work on projects and continue to be consistent.

But we've got some highs that happened from happy coincidences too!

I wasn't completely silent - I helped a local musician release her second single!

My partner’s band, Marygolds, released their first EP and played their first public show! (Recap on that coming later) They also played their second public show with Sofar Sounds Louisville!
Catch them later this month at Mag Bar on the 16th and stream the EP!

I've started volunteering with our only non-profit listening room in Louisville, The Monarch. I've helped them with some design work in addition to trying to be more present by volunteering on-site. All of their shows are by donation and proceeds go straight to the artists performing! Or become a member and support the overall mission of The Monarch in continually supporting local - and touring - music, singers, songwriters, and performers.

I also was around attending all sorts of shows - even getting to see the band I have loved and admired the most over the years, Billy Talent, in their first US show in almost a decade! (Also expect a recap on this in the future because I was a sobbing mess in the crowd.)

It was an eventful summer and this time has also given me some room to think about how I want Wyld Craft to grow. I'm back now, I'm focused, I’m reorganizing, and I am determined. You'll see some very slight changes in my content (like more design & photography and fewer marketing insights, which might also mean fewer posts for a while). I'm just gonna get used to being dedicated to doing it all in time and focusing on building more consistency over most anything else!
